SHINING 3D Empowered Next-Generation Talent at WorldSkills Shanghai 2026

Discover how SHINING 3D empowered five skills at WorldSkills Shanghai 2026 with 3D scanning, digital inspection, and advanced solutions for skills development.

From September 22 to 27, the 48th WorldSkills Competition was held in Shanghai, bringing together 1,385 young professionals from 68 countries and regions to compete across a wide range of skills and celebrate excellence in technical and vocational education.

As a Global Industry Partner of WorldSkills International and Platinum Sponsor of WorldSkills Shanghai 2026, SHINING 3D supported the competition with high-precision 3D digital technologies across five skill areas: Mechanical Engineering CAD, Dental Prosthetics, Additive Manufacturing, Aircraft Maintenance, and Autobody Repair.

From equipping competitors and supporting technical training to providing 3D scanning and inspection solutions for experts and judges, SHINING 3D contributed to the competition at multiple levels—helping demonstrate how digital technologies are transforming not only how skills are performed, but also how they are measured and evaluated.

At the Heart of the Competition

On the competition floor, SHINING 3D 3D scanners became important digital tools for competitors working under demanding time constraints.

In Mechanical Engineering CAD, competitors used our FreeScan Combo Series to capture key dimensional information from physical components and support reverse engineering and digital modeling. In Additive Manufacturing, FreeScan UE Pro helped competitors capture the geometry of existing components and verify the accuracy of manufactured parts against their digital designs.

New to this year's WorldSkills Competition, Dental Prosthetics marked the first time digital dental technology was introduced as an independent skill at the event. SHINING 3D played a key role in bringing this new skill to the competition, providing technical support and digital equipment covering the dental restoration workflow, from digital impressions and model scanning to 3D printing.

During the competition, SHINING3D Inspect was also used to support the assessment of digital dental work. By comparing competitors' work with reference models and turning dimensional and morphological differences into visualized 3D data, the software provided experts with more objective and precise measurement results, helping make the evaluation process more consistent and data-driven.

From Manual Measurement to 3D Inspection

In Aircraft Maintenance and Autobody Repair, 3D scanning took on another role: becoming a digital measurement and inspection tool for experts and judges.

SHINING 3D provided 3D scanners together with SHINING3D Inspect software, enabling experts to capture completed work digitally and compare it against reference models, inspection templates, or predefined standards.

In Aircraft Maintenance, experts could scan sheet-metal components and assemblies to capture key dimensions and positions with FreeScan Omni Series, then use inspection software to analyze the results. In Autobody Repair, FreeScan Trak Nova Series supported the assessment of repaired body panels and installation accuracy by comparing scan data with reference values.

Together, the scanner and inspection software provided a digital alternative to traditional manual measurement. Instead of relying solely on calipers, gauges, or visual assessment, judges could use 3D data to perform dimensional measurement, 3D comparison, deviation analysis, and digital reporting.

This approach helped make assessment more precise, efficient, consistent, and traceable, while complementing the professional expertise of judges with objective measurement data.

Strengthening Global Partnerships

During the competition, SHINING 3D renewed its Global Industry Partnership with WorldSkills International through 2028, further strengthening its long-term collaboration in skills development and digital transformation.
